History: The Ridgewood Biddy Basketball program was founded in September 1975 to provide a scaled-down game for the youngest child. The first season included 175 children, 20 teams, and 2 leagues. With the conclusion of the 24th season, 2002-2003, 1000 children participated on 104 teams in 6 leagues. In 1994 we went into a Recreational Program consisting of 3rd and 4th grade girls and boys, 5th and 6th grade girls and boys, 7th and 8th grade girls and boys. In 1998 we instituted a High School league which consisted of 60 boys playing on 6 different teams. This current year we had 160 boys and girls playing on 16 different teams with a ten game schedule with playoffs. In 2000 we started a Special Needs Program on 4 Sundays in December. We started with 6 children and this year we had 17 children enrolled. We continue our practice of giving every 3rd and 4th grade students a basketball so they may practice at home.

Volunteers: We depend on volunteers. A Board of Trustees is made up of Village Residents who help manage and offer this program every year to the village youth. Ridgewood High School boys and girls help to teach our children at our clinics with the aid of high school teachers and parents. Approximately 200 volunteer fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, high school and college students coach our teams each year. We hire former players to keep the clock and score for us. Children and former players, high school age, adults and carded basketball officials help referee our games.

Registration: Registration will open July 6, 2005 and will end on September 20, 2005. Registration will only be accepted electronically and can be found at www.ridgewoodsports.org.
